Arise and Shine
He is always waiting on us
So surrender
Surrender again
Surrender everything you can think of
Surrender and ask for inspiration for what to surrender
Do you need that thing you really think you need?
Are you open to receiving it as a gift instead of a means for your survival?
Can you give up your dreams?
Can you give Him your every desire?
Because you already know what He does
He refines it and sets it aglow
So isn’t that what we should have been taught long ago
That this life isn’t about what you can do or dream
This life is about the magnificence of what you can receive
So make room for Him
Submit to Him your thoughts and theologies
Submit to Him your opinions
And live by His Word
Cast down the rebel lion prowling next to the table
Stealing your vision of what is prepared before you
And giving you a false label
The rebel lion teaches that to be fed
You must steal and make your own bread
Forget how painful the serpent striking the heel
Forget the rest and take the poison of sleep
Listen to the lullabies of the night
You can’t even hear the the simple baaas of the sheep
Watch the performance of survival
Give up any hopes you had for revival
But if you’re still here, still breathing, still reading
It’s not too late
You can wake up — get up — stand up
You’re not meant for a mausoleum or to lay in state
Or to sit before and empty plate
A show of what you can do and be
All on your own
Always rolling your own stone
You’re meant to run and play
Live and breath in the great cloud by day
To ignite and dance
Worship and like a deer prance
It’s His blood — the precious blood
You need a complete transfusion
To exit your confusion
You can’t mix it with poison
Thought you have been taught and told you may
So ask Him for the antidote
There’s only one
and it begins and ends
With the life, death, and resurrection
Of the Son
Ask Him where the poison entered
Ask Him the place where you were neglected
And surrender those places where you felt dejected
He is Father and Brother and Friend
His government shall know no end
It’s Jesus — just His name
To call upon and see that you are no longer the same
You get His name
So find your passport
Enforce your citizenship
Take it back from the rebel lion
Reverse the trade
It is your birthright
The one He died to give you
So that you would be saved
Come to the table
It’s His bread and His wine
It’s His body
It’s His blood
Give back the soup you thought was better
Live your life free — you are no beggar
Arise
Arise
Your light has come
Awake
Awake
Look at My Father’s Son
Bow
Bow
And you will fly
By the Spirit
Otherwise, it is true
You shall surely die
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.” Isaiah 60:1
